Police Respond to Robbery, Separate Burglary with One Suspect Involved in Both
State College Police responded to a robbery and theft in progress at the Super 8 Motel, 1663 S. Atherton St. and to a report of a burglary at Dunn Mowery Insurance and Benchmark Construction, 1500 S. Atherton St. and determined the suspect involved in both incidents is the same man.
Police responded to both calls on Tuesday. When police arrived at the Super 8 Motel, the suspect had fled the scene. Police said the front desk clerk reported the suspect approached him at the front desk and told him a vending machine in the hotel was damaged. The clerk left the front desk unattended to check on the vending machine and the suspect subsequently went behind the desk and removed money.
The clerk returned and confronted the suspect and the suspect told him that he had a gun and fled the hotel running towards Atherton Street, police said.
Police describe the suspect was a white male wearing black boots, jeans, a gray jacket, black hooded sweatshirt under the jacket pulled up over his head and a light colored, faded baseball hat.
Police then responded to a burglary at Dunn Mowery Insurance and Benchmark Construction that had occurred earlier in the morning. It was determined that the suspect from the Super 8 robbery was also involved in the burglary, police said. The office building had been entered and several items were removed from the building.
The suspect was last identified in the area of the Ramada south parking lot, police said.
Anyone with information on the incident or anyone who can identify the suspect is asked to call the State College Police at 814-234-7150.
