Quaker Steak & Lube Returning to State College

by on March 05, 2013 4:23 PM

Wing fans in State College will soon have another dining option. Quaker Steak & Lube is set to return. The popular restaurant franchise will open at the site of the former Cinema 6 Theatre in the Benner Pike Plaza near the Nittany Mall.

A Quaker Steak & Lube on North Atherton Street closed its doors in 2008 after only two years when lawsuits forced it into bankruptcy. This new restaurant will open under different ownership.  There is currently no announced opening date. The Pennsylvania-based restaurant chain has 42 locations nationwide.

Rumors of Quaker Steak & Lube’s return started a couple weeks ago when the company’s Facebook page started an online voting contest to gauge interest in potential locations, with State College appearing on the list.

The chain is best known for its wide variety of wing sauces, including the incredibly hot “Triple Atomic” flavor — so spicy that consumers must sign a liability waiver before eating them. Ambitious wing eaters can add their name to the “Atomic Wall of Fame” if they're able to consume a half dozen triple atomic wings.

An Advance Autoparts is also set to open next door.
