Rendell Endorses Clinton in Presidential Race
on January 25, 2008 8:21 AM
Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell says he is backing Hillary Rodham Clinton for president.

It's a key endorsement for her. Pennsylvania's delegates could be critical if the race remains unresolved after Super Tuesday.

Rendell says he has known Clinton for at least 15 years and was impressed with her as first lady. He says he feels her performance as a New York senator has been "spectacular." He says, "She really cares about moving this country forward."

Rendell was mayor of Philadelphia when Bill Clinton was president, and says he liked that Senator Clinton has worked with Republicans on educational issues. He says her economic development plans would invest in research and education.

Rendell says Clinton "also has the best health care plan for America."

The governor made the remarks in Carlisle before attending a groundbreaking for a building at Dickinson Law School. Pennsylvania's primary is April 22.
