#Sandusky Hashtag Leaves Ohio Town in Tweeting Tizzy Over Father's Day Promotion
It started out as an innocent tweet for a Father's Day getaway promotion, but the #Sandusky hashtag has tourism officials in Sandusky, Ohio in a tweeting tizzy.
Those who clicked on the #Sandusky hashtag Wednesday in search of more information on “Golf & Spa Kalahari — #Sandusky Package/Gift Certificate. Perfect for a Father's Day gift!" — were redirected to headlines from the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse trial, according to an msnbc.com story.
Officials in the town of more than 27,000 say they rarely use the #Sandusky hashtag, but did so this time to let travelers know the Father's Day offer was not valid at their Wisconsin resort with the same name.
"Our social media gal is having a guilt complex,” said Joan Van Offeren, director of the visitors bureau in Sandusky, which is the home of the famous Cedar Point amusement park. It is located approximately an hour west of Cleveland.
She said the visitors bureau would not use the #Sandusky hashtag in any more tweets.
