Sandusky Posts Bail, Returns Home to College Township
by and on December 08, 2011 1:55 PM

Jerry Sandusky posted bail and was released from the Centre County Correctional Facility shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

He left the jail in a three-car caravan. Sandusky traveled in the backseat of an unmarked Dodge Intrepid with a government plate.

Authorities transported him directly to his family home in College Township, where news media were waiting.

He made no immediate public comments.

Sandusky's attorney, Joseph Amendola, told reporters via e-mail that he will provide more details later this afternoon.

Charged with 40 criminal counts in November, Sandusky is accused of a prolonged pattern of child sexual abuse. State authorities charged him Wednesday with 12 additional counts.

Sandusky, a former assistant football coach at Penn State, was arraigned Wednesday afternoon before District Judge Robert E. Scott and jailed in the Centre County lock-up. Scott set straight bail at $250,000, though the prosecution had requested bail of $1 million.

Sandusky is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday. While out on bail, he must wear an electronic monitoring device and be placed under house arrest, per a court order.
