Jerry Sandusky sat with New York Times reporter Jo Becker this week for his first prolonged media interview since charges were filed Nov. 5, asserting that "I'm not the monster I've been (made out) to be."

The Times has presented the Sandusky interview in its Saturday editions, with supplemental material on its website. Some portions of Becker's interview are captured on video, included in The Times' online coverage. The online coverage includes audio excerpts, as well.

At one point in the conversation, Sandusky said that the news media and authorities "have taken everything that I ever did for any young person and twisted it to say that my motives were sexual (and) whatever."

But "I never engaged in sexual acts with these young people," Sandusky said.

He also said that former Penn State football Coach Joe Paterno "never spoke to him about any suspected misconduct with minors," The Times' text report reads. In addition, he told the newspaper that The Second Mile "never restricted his access to children until he became the subject of a criminal investigation in 2008."

Sandusky, a former assistant football coach at Penn State and The Second Mile's founder, is accused of a prolonged pattern of child sexual abuse. He has said repeatedly that he is innocent.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 13 in Bellefonte.
