Serious Wreck Shuts Down Route 322, One Person Airlifted to Hospital

by and on October 17, 2014 5:35 PM

Update Saturday, 7:00 a.m.: Wreckage from last night's accident has been cleared and traffic is moving normally on Route 322.

A serious multi-vehicle crash on Route 322 has left three people hurt and traffic at a standstill on the busy highway.

At least one of the victims suffered severe injuries. That person was airlifted to a trauma center.

The other two other people were taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center with less serious injuries.

The accident happened just before 4 p.m. Friday, near Tait Farm in Boalsburg.

Police say the highway will be closed between Boalsburg and Potters Mills for several hours. Meantime, traffic is being detoured onto Route 45 and Route 144.

The wreck involved a tractor-trailer, a jeep and a car. The three drivers were the only people in those vehicles.

It's not clear how the accident happened but officers at the scene think one of the vehicles may have crossed the center line triggering the pile-up.

The tractor-trailer appears to have moderate damage, but the two other vehicles are badly mangled.
