The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement, warning State College residents that strong thunderstorms are moving through our area. You should expect to see intense lightning with this storm. The storm is expected to pass through State College, Pine Grove Mills and Pleasant Gap.

The storm is moving northeast at 15 mph.

Wind gusts up to 40 mph and small hail are possible.

It not only feels like summer, we may see some summer-like weather in the hours ahead.

Temperatures are in the 80s and a humid air mass is parked over our region. In the photo you can see the haze and humidity that's hovering around Mount Nittany.

As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for State College and surrounding areas in western Pennsylvania.

That means conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms. Those storms are capable of producing one inch hail with winds gusting up to 58 mph or more.

The watch will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday.
