Soggy Homecoming Forecast: Flood Advisory Posted for Much of Central Pennsylvania

by on October 11, 2013 7:10 AM

Penn State's homecoming weekend is getting off to a damp and dreary start.

The National Weather Service has posted an Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for southeastern Centre County and much of central Pennsylvania.

Early Friday morning, Doppler Radar showed heavy rain continuing to fall across the area with more rain expected later today.

We could see another one to two inches of rain. Moderate to heavy rain will fall this morning. It should become lighter by late this afternoon.

Minor flooding of drainage areas and along some small streams is possible. The flood advisory will remain in effect until 3:30 p.m.

A flood advisory means that water levels in streams and creeks may be elevated and could rise out of their banks. However, property damage will be minimal. Any flooding would not be immediately life threatening.

A Flood Warning is also posted for parts of south central Pennsylvania with reports of up to six inches of rain in places. Anyone heading to State College should be alert for possible flooding. Do not drive across flooded roadways.
