Spanier Requests Additional Funding

Penn State University President Graham Spanier appeared before the state's House and Senate Appropriations Committees Tuesday in an effort to obtain more state funding for the university.
According to a Daily Collegian report, the budget submitted by Governor Ed Rendell increases the funds Penn State is to receive from the commonwealth by 1.5%. When combined with budget cuts in other areas, the net increase is just 0.78%, which, Penn State officials stated, is not enough to cover the cost of inflation.
State Senator Jake Corman, R-Centre, informed university representatives that there are members of the legislature who will try to increase the university's funding. (More info) |
