St. Joe’s Suspends Football Program for 2018

For the first time since the fall of 2012, Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy will not have a football team.

The college preparatory high school is set to begin its eighth year of operation this coming August, but it will do so without fielding a football team.

“We have not finished a season with more than 18 healthy players over the past five seasons,” St. Joe’s athletic director Chad Walsh said in a statement released by the school, discussing the terms concerning the suspension of the program. “This year, we are looking at fewer than 13 who have committed to playing.”

Last season, the Wolves were unable to find a win and ended the season with a record of 0-8.

Although football is suspended for this upcoming fall at St. Joe’s, the administration made it clear that the program is not gone forever.

“There may not be a 2018 football season, this does not mean that the program will cease to exist forever.”

The team had just three seniors set to play this fall.

Unfortunately for athletes wanting to play football, Walsh said students are unable to transfer to play at another school due to PIAA rules.
