St. Joseph's Begins Search for New Head of School

Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy in Boalsburg has launched a national search for a new head of school, the college preparatory high school announced on Wednesday.

After four years as principal Chris Chirieleison departed to return to teaching at The Hill School in Pottstown. Guidance counselor Jean Kozak is currently serving as interim principal.

The leadership role will move from the title of principal to head of school, Board of Trustees Chair Rob Thomas said in a release.

“Leading the Saint Joe’s community is more than a principal role,” Thomas said. “In addition to a commitment to academic excellence, the head of school will demonstrate personal spirituality and a desire to advance the school’s four pillars of faith, scholarship, leadership and service among both students and faculty. As a faith-based school, this distinction is what makes the Saint Joe’s experience unique.”

The head of school will provide leadership for school finances and oversee day-to-day operations, long-range planning, curriculum development, marketing, admissions, faculty recruitment, and institutional advancement. He or she also will be the public face of the school in the community.

Qualifications for the position include a master’s degree or higher, preferably in educational administration, a minimum of five years of successful teaching and/or administrative experience and a current principal’s license from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.

The search will run through the fall with screenings, phone interviews and in-person interviews. A new head of school is expected to be in place by July 2018.

Thomas said that St. Joe's 100 percent college acceptance rate for graduating seniors, as well as a growing list of extracurricular opportunities and a faith community have made the school attractive to students and families.

“Saint Joe’s is an established rigorous college preparatory high school and vibrant community,” Thomas said. “With steady increases in enrollment each year, the Board of Trustees is preparing for Saint Joe’s to reach its maximum capacity in the next three to five years.”
