State College Area School District is once again the No. 16 district out 498 in Pennsylvania, according to a new ranking.

The ranking was produced by Niche.coma website that analyzes public data to provide rankings and ratings of schools and neighborhoods. Niche uses factors including state test scores, college readiness, graduation rates, SAT/ACT scores, teacher quality, public school district ratings and more based on U.S. Department of Education data and parent and student reviews to formulate the rankings.

Districts received letter grades in a number of categories as well as an overall grade. SCASD earned an overall grade of A+. The district also was ranked No. 16 last year by Niche.

State High also is ranked No. 19 out of 662 public high schools in Pennsylvania.

Rankings for other Centre County school districts included:

- Penns Valley Area ranked No. 117 (up from No. 128 in 2017) with an overall grade of A-. Penns Valley Area Junior/Senior High is ranked the No. 186 for best public high schools .

(High school rankings went up to 280 and BEA and P-O high schools did not receive a numerical ranking.)

As with last year's school district rankings, the top 20 is dominated by districts in the Philadelphia suburbs and the Pittsburgh area. Aside from State College, the only other district in the top 20 not from those two areas is Derry Township School District in Hershey, at No. 18.

Tredyffrin/Easttown and Radnor Township school districts, both in southeastern Pennsylvania, are ranked No. 1 and 2, respectively, followed by Mount Lebanon School District in Pittsburgh at No. 3.
