State College Borough Council Approves CATA Budget, Discusses Capital Improvement Plan

by on June 05, 2012 6:00 AM

In a brisk 33-minute meeting Monday night, the State College Borough Council's hot topics were the CATA budget and the Capital Improvement Plan.

CATA's $75,100 budget proposal was approved, along with a 7.8 percent reduction in the borough's share.

"For all the service we get from CATA, it's quite a good bargain," council president Don Hahn said.

The 2013-17 Capital Improvement Plan, which has been under review since early May, almost is ready for adoption.

One item of interest within that plan is the Atherton Street Corridor Project. Pending PennDOT approval to make changes to the roadway, it would give additional street lighting to the area and also pedestrian fencing.

Other topics of interest were:

  • Road construction to Easterly Parkway, phased over a three-year period for residence convenience;
  • Pugh Street Scape Project, street light replacements and sidewalk construction;
  • Storm Water Project, various pipes need to be fixed or replaced;
  • Pedestrian/Bicycle Safety Program, with covered bike rack to be installed at Schlow Library.
