State College Borough Council Set to Approve Funds for Downtown Traffic Design
State College Borough Council is set to vote Monday on a $63,000 traffic design project for three downtown intersections.
Council will consider approving the $63,450 expenditure to hire Stahl Sheaffer Engineering for design assistance with the intersections of Pugh Street and College Avenue, Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue, and Beaver Avenue and Locust Lane.
Currently, borough staff handles all aspects of project design, permitting, bidding, inspection and contract administration, with the exception of areas outside their expertise, including traffic signal design.
The project includes traffic signal design to add a left turn arrow at the intersection of Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue, traffic signal plans at both College Avenue and Pugh Street and Beaver Avenue and Pugh Street, and handicap ramp designs at all three intersections.
This is the cost breakdown:
- College/Pugh - $23,725
- Beaver/Pugh - $27,065
- Beaver/Locust - $12,660
Council meets at 6 p.m. Monday, an hour earlier than usual because council has an orientation session immediately following the public meeting.
