State College Schools Dismissing Early Due to Predicted Snow

by on January 02, 2014 11:03 AM

The State College Area School District has announced that schools will dismiss students early Thursday.

Middle and high school students will be dismissed at 1 p.m. and elementary students will be dismissed at 2 p.m. due to predicted snow. All after-school activities and late buses are also canceled.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory for State College and all of central Pennsylvania.

Snow is expected to begin falling Thursday afternoon with accumulations ranging from 3 to 5 inches.

The Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect from noon on Thursday until 7 a.m. Friday.

The most intense snowfall will happen Thursday afternoon into Thursday night.

The snow may produce hazardous travel conditions because of slippery roads and reduced visibility caused by blowing snow.

Temperatures will fall dramatically by Friday morning. Winds out of the north will gust up to 30 mph, producing temperatures in the single digits along with sub-zero wind chills.
