State College Sets Timing, Route for Halloween Parade

State College borough has announced the route for the 65th annual State College Halloween Costume Parade, scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Sunday.

It will form at 6:30 p.m. on North Burrowes Road -- just north of West College Avenue, on the University Park campus. From there, it will travel south on Burrowes Road to West College Avenue; east on West College to South Allen Street; south on South Allen to West Foster Avenue; and west on West Foster to Memorial Field.

To make way for the parade, the borough will close several streets for about an hour starting at 6:30 p.m. They are College Avenue between Pugh Street and Burrowes Road; South Allen Street between College Avenue and Foster Avenue; and Foster Avenue between South Allen Street and Memorial Field.

Westbound drivers on East College Avenue will be detoured onto South Pugh Street, police said. Likewise, traffic on Beaver Avenue will be stopped periodically to allow the parade procession to pass through.

The parade is sponsored by the State College Lions Club and Centre Region Parks and Recreation. Anyone can dress up and participate in the parade, which features several costume categories: Halloween Tiny Tots (for ages two and younger); Cartoon Characters; Witches and Monsters; Fairy Tale Characters; Ghosts and Goblins; TV/Movie Characters; Animals on Parade; Halloween Twosome; Groups (three or more); and Open Class. Group signs at the parade staging area will direct costumed participants to their themed sections.

At Memorial Field, where the parade concludes, costume judging will be performed by members of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. will post photos from the parade. Meanwhile, trick-or-treating is scheduled for tonight -- Thursday -- from 6 to 8 p.m. in State College borough and Patton, Ferguson, Harris and College townships.
