State College Spikes Will Paint the Park Pink
The State College Spikes will help raise money for breast cancer treatment, while honoring survivors and those suffering from the illness, during its upcoming "Paint the Park Pink" event.
The event will be Aug. 3 at Medlar Field when the Spikes take on the Hudson Valley Renegades.
The Spikes' players will wear special jerseys in support of the fight against breast cancer. The first 1,000 women through the gates will receive a free pink ribbon drawstring bag. Fans can also bid on items during a silent auction.
Sponsored by Mount Nittany Health, all proceeds will benefit The Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, which supports the advancement of healthcare available to the community. The foundation will designate all the money it receives from this game to Mount Nittany Health's Breast Care Center.
Kimberly Neely, director of the Foundation for Mount Nittany Medical Center, says over the last eight years Paint the Park Pink events have raised $35,000 for Mount Nittany Health Breast Care Center.
"We are extremely grateful to be a part of an event of this magnitude, which keeps funds right here in our community and supports individuals and families facing breast cancer," says Neely.
The Penn State Lady Lions and the Pink Zone at Penn State will join the event. Lady Lion head coach Coquese Washington will throw out the first pitch and members of the Lady Lions will sign autographs on the concourse during the second inning.
In eight Pink Zone annual events, the Lady Lions have donated roughly $1.1 million to various breast cancer charities.
The night also includes postgame fireworks.
Mount Nittany representatives will be also be at the game providing information on cancer treatments and cancer care services offered at the Nittany Mountain Medical Center.
Gates will open early for pregame activities. For more information or to purchase tickets for Paint the Park Pink Night, visit the Spikes' website.
