State College Volleyball Star Wins Statewide Recognition

A State College High School student brought home a big award Thursday. Taylor Leath was named the Gatorade Pennsylvania Volleyball Player of the Year.

According to Gatorade, the award recognizes outstanding athletic excellence as well as high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.

The 6-3 senior outside hitter racked up 384 kills, 223 digs, 46 service aces and 42 blocks during the 2013 campaign. The Little Lions went 18-2 on the year. Leath will play volleyball at the University of North Carolina.

The Gatorade Player of the Year program recognizes one winner in the District of Columbia and each of the 50 states that sanction high school football, girls volleyball, boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls soccer, baseball, softball and boys and girls track and field, and awards one national player of the year in each sport.
