State High Alum Haffner a Finalist for NFF Scholar Athlete Award

Recent State College Area graduate and current Lehigh University freshman linebacker Pete Haffner is one of 35 finalists for the 2017 National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Chapter Scholar-Athlete Awards.

A 2017 State High graduate, Haffner was a three-year letter winner and two-time All-State selection for the Little Lions.

The NFF Chapter Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes one student from each of five regions for accomplishments on the field, in the classroom and in the community at the high school level. Finalists are 2017 high school graduates who are currently playing college football. 

Haffner is one of 13 finalists from an FCS program and was nominated by the NFF Central Pennsylvania Chapter. A high honor roll student during his time at State High, Haffner is currently enrolled in Lehigh's College of Business and Economics.

The NFF Central PA chapter previously awarded Haffner a $1,000 scholarship as its outstanding student-athlete for 2017.

In addition to All-State honors, Haffner was twice named Defensive MVP for the Mid-Penn Conference Commonwealth Division. He also was a team captain and three year-letter winner for the Little Lion wrestling team and a letter-winner in lacrosse.

The five honorees for the NFF Chapter Scholar Athlete Award will be announced on Oct. 4. and will be honored at the NFF Chapter Awards Luncheon Dec. 5 in New York City.
