In a game that showcased a different State College team, the McKeesport Tigers dominated until the final score of 65-50.
Only seniors Taran Buie and Colby Way scored for the Little Lions in the first half, which ended with the Lions down by 12. The second half wasn't much better.
With about two minutes left in the game, State College recorded two quick steals that led to scores and a short-lived shift in momentum. The Tigers' lead was only cut to a dozen before they regained control of the game.
The season is over for the eight seniors on the team: Buie, Way, Ben Sallade, Bryan Schmidt, Matt Mazzara, Nate Deffenbaugh, Brian Scholly and Dom Mills. The remaining eight players have at least another left to try to take the Little Lions deeper into the playoffs next season.
The State High girls' team has yet to start its championship run. It will travel to Tyrone Middle School 7 p.m. Friday to face the winner of the Peters Township/Erie McDowell game.
