State High Boys Claim Team Title at State Indoor Track Championship

State College boys track and field capped the indoor season with a championship.

The Little Lions finished first out of 74 teams at the PTFCA indoor state championships on Sunday at Penn State. State High racked up 43.5 points to finish ahead of Central Dauphin East at the meet, which does not separate teams by classification or division.

On the girls side, State College came in 17th out of 62 teams. Saint Joseph's Catholic Academy finished 43rd.

With the top individual finishes on the day for the Little Lions, Stanley Hamilton took gold in the triple jump with a mark of 48-03.25, while Lance Hamilton grabbed silver with 48-01.00 8.

Luke Knipe claimed bronze in the pole vault, with a 15-0 clearance and David Wasson placed eighth, clearing 14-06.

Jake Hefkin took fourth in the long jump with 22-04.5. Lance Hamilton medaled at seventh.

State College also fared well in the relays, headed by a bronze for the 4x800 team of Joe Messner, Marc Allerheiligen, Henry Ballard and Zachary DeCarmine with a time of 7:54.94.

The 4X200 team (Chase Longenecker, DeCarmine, Luke Knipe, Sammy Knipe) place fifth at 1:31.21 and the 4x400 team (Stanley Hamilton, Allerheiligen, Ryan Lindenberg, DeCarmine) took seventh with a time of 3:27.32.

Bellefonte's Moryelle Fernandez competed in the triple jump and long jump finals, claiming 12th and 13th, respectively.

For the State College girls, Lyndsey Reed led the way with a fourth place medal in the pole vault, clearing 12-0, despite competing with an ankle injury. Kileigh Kane placed fifth in the 1 mile with a time of 4:58.42.

The distance medley team of Lizzie Gilpatrick, Elly Haushalter, Emma Maras and Kane led the State College relays with a sixth place finish in 12:31.62.

Saint Joe's distance medley team (Sera Mazza, Kathleen Simander, Myah Chappell and Julia Cusatis) finished ninth and the Wolves' 4x800 (Lindsey Carmack, Chappell, Cusatis and Simander) was 16th.
