State High Football:Little Lions Fall Late 34-14 To McDevitt

State College put up a good fight but Bishop McDevitt showed why it can be considered a state title contender with a 34-14 victory on Friday night.

The Little Lions opened up the game in front of a standing room only crowd with a long drive and score to give State College a 7-0 lead behind the first of many carries for standout running back Jordan Misher. Misher would become nearly all of the Little Lion offense with over 20 carries on the night showing off shifty moves throughout.

McDevitt would score with 11:18 after both teams struggled to hang onto the ball. A 35-yard TD pass would put McDevitt up 13-7 after a blocked extra point would keep State College with arms reach.

State College struggled to move the ball after the opening series as McDevitt was able to largely contain Misher inside the tackles. McDevitt extended its lead to 20-7 with just over 3 minutes to play in the half. State College turned the ball over on back-to-back drives in the second quarter, slowing much of the moment the defense had gained. The Little Lions received the ball to open the second half but failed to score to cut into the lead.

The Little Lions found some life though as Misher found some running room, diving into the end zone to cap off a long State College drive cutting the lead to only a 20-14 margin with 2:15 left in the third quarter.

The comeback wasn't to be though as McDevitt drove the length of the field to push the lead back out to a 27-14 margin with 1:17 to play in the third quarter. The drive lasted only four plays and would quickly take the Memorial Field crowd out of the contest.

A 64-yard run would cap off the night for McDevitt with 11:33 left in the game with neither scoring again to settle a 34-14 final score.

State College falls to 1-1 on the season and will travel to Martinsburg WV before returning home to face Carlisle.
