State College Area High School freshman Paulina Tabachnikova achieved a rare feat with a perfect score on the 2018 National Latin Exam.

How rare? Out of 140,000 students from 24 countries who took the exam, only 526, or fewer than one-half of one percent, achieved a perfect score, according to a State College Area School District release.

“This is a matter of great honor and pride in our school,” Assistant Principal Katherine Ricker said.

In other languages, State High also excelled with national examinations. Spanish students Brady Bigger, Darren Chen and Alexandra Yao (all Spanish 1); Brooke Person (Spanish 3); and Ananya Tadigadapa (Spanish 4) received gold “Oro” awards for scoring in the 95th percentile or above nationally at their respective levels.

Chen, Person and Tadigadapa also received regional first place awards.

State High Spanish students notched seven silvers, 11 bronzes and 33 honorable mentions on the exam as well. Seven German students scored above the 90th percentile on the National German Exam.
