State High Gets 'ROWDIE' on the First Day of School

by on August 28, 2012 12:25 PM

The first day of school started with cheers, applause and chants as State High students gathered in the North Building gym for a back to school celebration.

Joined by the school mascot and equipped with free t-shirts to toss into the bleachers, the cheerleading team led a standing room-only gym in the school's cheer. Crowds of students were on their feet in the stands to chant, "Let's get rowdie," along with the team. The chant was projected on a screen on the gym floor, so everyone knew just how to spell it.

Class officers from the sophomore, junior and senior class welcomed students back to school and announced important dates, such as the upcoming dances and other events. Homecoming weekend kicks off mid-September, with the parade on Sept. 20 and the homecoming football game Sept. 21.

Elections will be held in the upcoming weeks to elect freshman student government representatives.

Students were encouraged to get involved in any area that might interest them, as there are 82 clubs and activities touted by State High, including their own version of THON – appropriately dubbed the "mini dance marathon" by the Little Lions.

Happy first day of school and best wishes for a great new school year, State College Area School District!
