State Police Continue to Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Hit and Run Incident

One year after someone hit a 32-year-old woman with their vehicle, fatally injuring her, police say the investigation is still underway.

Sherry Rae Houtz of Bellefonte died Feb. 12, 2013 after a vehicle hit her while she was on Interstate-99 at mile marker 72.6.

State police say the crash occurred between 3:45 and 4:03 a.m. when the vehicle hit Houtz and then fled the scene southbound.

Police believe the vehicle involved suffered damage to the passenger side, including the wheel well and passenger side of the windshield.

"The investigation is active and open," state police said in a statement.

A reward for up to $1,000 is offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible. Tips can be submitted to Centre County Crime Stoppers via email at [email protected]

Born in 1980 in State College, Houtz was the daughter of Ronald and Betsy Houtz. She was the mother of two children, a son and daughter. She was a 1998 graduate of Bellefonte Area High School.
