by on April 17, 2017 3:59 PM

A new WPSU documentary that's scheduled air nationally on PBS stations will have its premiere at 7 p.m. Tuesday at The State Theatre.

“Managing Risk in a Changing Climate” is a 30-minute documentary that focuses on coastal Louisiana, "where threats associated with climate change leave communities like New Orleans facing tough choices under deep uncertainty," according to a WPSU release.

Along with a screening of the film, the premiere event, which is free and open to the public, will include a panel discussion with Penn State scientists Richard Alley, Klaus Keller and Erica Smithwick, and the documentary's director, Kristian Berg.

The film looks at how decision makers can work with researchers and community members in making choices for managing risk from rising sea levels and storms, exploring the scientific disciplines that come together to address economic, social, environmental and ethical issues. It features leading climate experts and various community members and leaders from the New Orleans area.

“Managing Risk in a Changing Climate” was produced by WPSU with support from the Network for Sustainable Climate Risk Management (SCRiM), a National Science Foundation-sponsored research network centered at Penn State.

The documentary will begin airing on PBS stations later in April. It will debut on WPSU at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday.
