Centre County resident and Central Pennsylvania native Ron Musselman, a veteran journalist with more than three decades as a writer, editor and Web producer, has been named editor-in-chief of StateCollege.com.

Musselman, a 1981 journalism graduate of Penn State, will oversee editorial operations for StateCollege.com, OnwardState.com, Williamsport.com and Altoona.com.

“We’re fortunate to have a hands-on, savvy newsman like Ron, whose extensive experience as a journalist in this region -- both in print and on the Web -- is unmatched,” said Dan Myers, president and owner of Lazerpro, the parent company of StateCollege.com.

“Over the past 18 years, Ron has worked at three of the top seven circulating newspapers in Pennsylvania and Ohio – the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Tribune-Review and The Blade in Toledo, Ohio.”

Musselman, 52, joins the site after a five-year stint as a reporter, web producer and blogger for the Post-Gazette. Based in State College, he has covered Penn State sports, news and features, and has reported extensively on the Jerry Sandusky child sexual-abuse scandal. He is a regular contributor to ESPN television and radio, and SiriusXM radio.

Musselman has been an editor and writer at seven newspapers in Pennsylvania and Ohio, earning awards from the APME, APSE and the Football Writers Association of America. A native of Duncansville, he also has been a writer and editor for the Tribune-Democrat (Johnstown), the Valley News Dispatch (Tarentum), The Progress (Clearfield) and The Daily Collegian, Penn State’s student newspaper.

“As we continue to grow our coverage of the region with sites in Williamsport and Altoona, Ron’s extensive experience throughout Western Pennsylvania and his Blair County roots give us a leg up on other news-gathering operations,” Myers said. “His in-depth knowledge of Penn State, combined with his stellar industry background, will help us continue to refine and improve our OnwardState.com site as well.”

Musselman has reported on Penn State for the Post-Gazette since 2007, and has lived in the region for nearly three decades.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to continue the day-to-day newspaper and Web coverage of Penn State and State College that I’ve been doing for several years,” said Musselman.

“But more important, I live in this community, so I understand the responsibility that comes with my new position. While working with the StateCollege.com team of editors, writers and columnists, my goal is to continue to provide – and enhance -- the news and information that literally hundreds of thousands of visitors who come to our sites are seeking.”

Musselman brings a wealth of online experience to the Lazerpro family of websites. He has produced online videos, created content for premium sites, done podcasts and hosted online chats. He has more than 2,300 Twitter followers. Musselman has extensive newspaper experience, having served as a sports editor, copy editor, columnist, writer and layout person.

Musselman has covered the Super Bowl, the World Series, golf’s U.S. Open, college football national championship games, the Indy 500, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Pittsburgh Pirates. He has been a regular beat reporter covering both Penn State football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
