Stryker Appointed to Ferguson Township Board of Supervisors

Ferguson Township's Board of Supervisors has its third new member this year.

Ford Stryker was unanimously approved by the board's other four member to fill the Ward II supervisor vacancy and was sworn in by Centre County Magisterial District Judge Casey McClain at Monday night's meeting.

A retired associate vice president for physical plant at Penn State, Stryker replaces Peter Buckland, who left the board at the end of June because he is moving out of the township. Stryker, who served in the U.S. Navy’s Civil Engineer Corps for 25 years and attained the rank of captain, is a board member for Mount Nittany Health and Spring Creek Trout Unlimited and a former board member for ClearWater Conservancy.

Board chair Steve Miller said Stryker was the only applicant and was interviewed by supervisors last week. Stryker will serve the remainder of Buckland's term, which concludes on Dec. 31.

Ferguson Township now has just two of the five supervisors with which it started the year — Miller and Ward I Supervisor Laura Dininni.

Former supervisor Richard Killian was appointed Ward III supervisor in February to replace Sara Carlson, who resigned at the beginning of the year citing health reasons. Killian's term also will conclude on Dec. 31.

In June, former planning commission chair Lisa Strickland was appointed to fill the at-large vacancy created by Tony Ricciardi's departure from the board. Ricciardi resigned effective May 28 because, like Buckland, he moved out of the township. Strickland's term runs until Dec. 31, 2021.

The Ward I, II and III supervisor positions are each up for election in November.
