by on July 13, 2014 1:36 PM

A 21-year old Penn State student was run down and left for dead by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday morning.

The hunt for a suspect is now underway.

The incident happened just after 5 a.m. on Blue Course Drive.

The victim, who has not been identified, suffered what police describe as "life-threatening injuries."

The  man was flown to U.P.M.C. Altoona Hospital according to a news release from Ferguson Township Police. His condition is unknown.

Investigators say the man was apparently walking in the street, pulling a wheeled cooler behind him, when he was struck. He was spotted lying in the road by a taxi driver who notified police.

Crash investigation specialists were dispatched to collect physical evidence but it appears police don't have much to go on.

They've issued an appeal for help. The police are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the hit-and-run vehicle or the driver.

If you have any information about the incident call Ferguson Township Police at 814-237-1172 or 800-479-0050.
