Sue Paterno Hospitalized, Reported to be in ‘Good Spirits’

no description

Sue Paterno, a well-known community advocate and widow of the late Joe Paterno, was hospitalized Thursday morning.

Dan McGinn, a spokesperson for the Paterno family, says Sue Paterno fell and was hospitalized for observation. The family says she fell while on Penn State’s campus.

“She is in good spirits and expects to be released in a day or so,” he said in an e-mail.

Paterno was expected to give the eulogy at the funeral of a close friend Thursday.

Ryan McCombie read the eulogy on her behalf at the funeral for retired U.S. Marine Col. Gerald S. Russell. McCombie told mourners that Paterno suffered a broken pelvis after falling.

Paterno was a close friend to Russell through their work for the Pennsylvania Special Olympics.

The fifth annual Paterno Family Beaver Stadium Run for Special Olympics Pennsylvania will return to Penn State on Blue White Weekend for a fifth consecutive year on April 13.

Proceeds will help underwrite the cost of participation for more than 2,000 athletes at the 2014 Special Olympics Pennsylvania Summer Games at Penn State in June.
