Tamba Hali Leaves $1,000 Tip for Astonished Restaurant Workers

Success with Honor? For former Penn State defensive end and All-American Tamba Hali, it’s more like Success with Generosity.

The Kansas City Chiefs linebacker celebrated his team’s win over the Houston Texans on Sunday at Fogo de Chao, a Brazilian steakhouse in the Plaza area of Kansas City. At the end of the night, he left a surprise gift for the staff: a $1,000 tip, according to KCTV5.

Hali played well on Sunday, recording six tackles and 2.5 sacks. After, he and a group of 15 friends and family headed to a near-empty Fogo de Chao at about 8:30 p.m.

The group gorged on pricey meals, racking up a bill of more than $1,800. Hali added on another $1,000 in gratuity  – ignoring the automatic $296.69 already applied.

The staff was predictably stunned, but happily divided the tip among themselves.

“It made our day. Hands down, it made our day,” server Joshua Roan told KCTV5. “The staff was over the top. He was the last guest in the building. There was a lot of shouting and hollering after he left. We had to wait until he left. We had to keep it professional.”

Hali is a regular customer at Fogo de Chao, so Roan is hopeful the linebacker will return. Roan said he would like to thank Hali for the large tip and congratulate him on his success this season.

It appears Hali’s display of generosity is nothing out of the norm for the linebacker, who signed a five-year, $60 million contract in 2011. A woman on Facebook reported to KCTV5 that Hali gave a $400 tip to a car wash worker last week.

I’m sure any restaurant staff in State College would welcome Hali back to his alma mater with open arms. Maybe he was just excited that it’s Ohio State week?
