Ted Brown Wants to Create a 'Shrine' Replica of Joe Paterno's Office

You can’t cover up 61 years of success with honor, and apparently that includes Joe Paterno’s literal office (well, a replica including the original furniture).

Ted Brown, a 1968 Penn State alumnus who’s running for re-election as an alumni-elected trustee on the Board, wants to honor Joe Paterno at Penn State in every way possible.

Brown wants this so much, in fact, that the first two of his 10 platform items for re-election are “Honor Joe” and “Seek the Truth.” For Brown, those mean putting a complete “shrine” replica of Joe Paterno’s office somewhere on campus, potentially the All Sports Museum or the library.

So let’s say Brown is re-elected and the Board okays the office shrine; getting replicas of every single piece of Paterno’s furniture would probably be too tricky right? Not for Brown. According to his re-election “Letter of Intent,” he has “incidentally” protected the original furniture from Paterno’s office from being sold or destroyed.

But honoring Joe doesn’t stop there — the Board of Trustee member’s number one platform item also includes renaming part of Beaver Stadium to honor the former coach. Yup, you guessed it: Paterno Field at Beaver Stadium. In that regard, the candidate’s platform also strongly opposes the erection of a new football stadium because “we must honor tradition.”

“My number one goal for both is to honor Joe Paterno for his 61 years of service in 2016, which is the 50th Anniversary of Joe becoming Head Football Coach and the 30th Anniversary of our Joe Paterno led 1986 National Championship team,” Brown’s platform reads.

Speaking of Board of Trustees meetings, the group will gather this Thursday and Friday at the Sweetest Place on Earth (The Hershey Lodge). Brown and friends will be in attendance to discuss everything from the IM Building to potential changes in room and board rates. We’ll have more info on the agenda as the week goes on and coverage come committee meetings on Thursday and the full board meeting on Friday.
