Teenager Shot with Air Gun During State College Football Game

A 13-year-old State College Area student is hospitalized after he was shot in the face with an air gun on Friday night during the State College High School football game.

A 14-year-old male student was identified as the suspect in the shooting, which reportedly occurred on the 200 block of South Fraser Street in front of the post office, just north of Memorial Field. The victim was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and then transported to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for injuries to his eye and face. 

Police said they believe the shooting was intentional and related to a prior argument between the two teenagers. 

Numerous witnesses reportedly identified the 14-year-old suspect, who was taken into custody without incident. A juvenile allegation of aggravated assault, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person. He was placed in the Central Counties Juvenile Detention Center. Police have not released the name of either teenager.

Police are continuing to investigate and are being assisted by State College Area School District administrators

"Right now, our focus as a district is on our students and their families and our steps to move forward to support them," SCASD superintendent Bob O'Donnell said in a statement. "This tragedy occurred despite having several police officers in close proximity. Therefore, we will collaborate with the State College police department to conduct a review of safety protocol at district events."

O'Donnell said an update would be shared with school district families about resources that will be in place at schools on Monday morning.
