TGIF: State College Weekend Events for Nov. 29-Dec. 1

Happy Friday, Happy Valley!

Holiday events are getting underway, and this weekend features Christmas Crystals at the Cave, the arrival of Santa at the Candy Cane Carnival, Small Business Saturday and more.

We've featured some highlights below.

FRIDAY

Christmas Crystals at the Cave
Kick off the Christmas season during Penn's Cave's annual "Christmas Crystals at the Cave" event, featuring special lantern tours of the all-water cave, special discounts on select merchandise, chainsaw carving demonstrations, large lighted displays, the Merry Maze and an appearance from Santa. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday. Lantern are tours at 5 p.m. only and reservations are recommended by calling (814) 364-1664, option "0." Bring a non-perishable food item donation and receive a free admission to the Merry Maze or the new Prospector Pete's Gemstone Express.

Centre Hall Community Christmas
Centre Hall celebrates the season with a tree lighting at St. Luke Lutheran Church, intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and West Church Street, at 6:30 p.m. Friday. On Saturday, a craft fair will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church and Progress Grange, with children's activities from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Penns Valley Men's Chorus performs at 3 p.m. at Trinity United Church of Christ. At 3 p.m. on Sunday  a chorus comprised from the borough's three churches will perform a Christmas cantata titled “Sing Christmas” at St. Luke Lutheran Church

Penn State Volleyball
No. 7 Penn State women's volleyball opens a big weekend of top 10 matchups with the Big Ten title on the line. The Nittany Lions host No. 5 Wisconsin at 6:30 p.m. in Rec Hall.

 


 

SATURDAY

Small Business Saturday
Support our local small businesses all day on Small Business Saturday. Make a day of it, shop and dine local by patronizing the small, brick and mortar businesses that help make our community special. State College | Bellefonte | Philipsburg

Craft Fair
The annual Bald Eagle Area craft and gift fair will feature more than 150 exhibitors and product vendors offering crafts, foods and much more. 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Bald Eagle Area High School, 710 S. Eagle Valley Rd., Wingate

Candy Cane Carnival
Celebrate the arrival of Santa at the Nittany Mall with a a fun-filled family event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Visit the community tables to learn about their organizations, and participate in a game, craft or other activity for you and your family. Stop by the petting zoo and don't forget get your face painted with some holiday cheer.

Penn State Volleyball
No. 7 Penn State women's volleyball hosts its second top-10 matchup of the weekend, taking on No. 8 Minnesota at 8 p.m. in Rec Hall.

 


 

SUNDAY

Home for the Holidays: Hanging of the Greens
Celebrate and experience the warmth and spirit of an old-fashioned holiday at the Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum with Home for the Holidays events in December.  Get into the spirit of the season by helping to decorate the mansion and grounds for the Christmas season from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

BAM Holiday Show & Sale
Bellefonte Art Museum, 133 N. Allegheny St., hosts its First Sunday opening reception from noon to 4 p.m. This month the 2019 Holiday Show and Sale features participating artists who were encouraged to create art that either incorporates some form of text in the design or takes its inspiration from the written word. The "Trees of the Season" will be exhibited in the display window throughout December.

Warren Miller's Timeless
Travel with new and veteran skiers and snowboarders as they explore renowned mountain locations across the globe in Warren Miller Entertainment's 70th anniversary feature film bringing the experience of the snow sports to the big screen. 7 p.m. at The State Theatre.
