by on February 01, 2017 5:00 AM

A trio of world class dancers and circus artists will bring a performance of impressive feats and artistic expression to The State Theatre stage this weekend.

"The Flicker" will light up the stage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The performers dub themselves 3Names and one of those three names is a State College native.

Dmitry Myers is a 2009 graduate of State College Area School District's Delta Program who is now a dancer, circus artist and gymnastics professional.

"We use a wide variety of disciplines from ballet to circus arts," Myers said of the show. "I hope people will enjoy experiencing it as much as we enjoyed creating it."

Born in Russia and raised in State College, Myers has studied on scholarship at the American Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Program at the University of Alabama and at the National Circus School of Canada, and completed two years of study at the Circus Warehouse in New York. He has performing experience in a wide range of dance, and has extensive training in the flying trapeze.

He recently performed with the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet in Philadelphia as a principle dancer and while there was on the faculty of the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts.

Joining Myers in "The Flicker" are dancer Brandon "Smooth" Morales and dancer and circus artist Jillian St. Germain. Morales is New York City dancer who performs a unique blend of popping, animation and freestyling. St. Germain is a ballet dancer trained in circus arts and breakdancing.

The three met while performing in New York.

"We have been working on this show for almost a year and it is based on our life experiences we have been through together," said Myers, who has performed in venues ranging from Eisenhower Auditorium in his hometown to New York's Lincoln Center.

"The Flicker" had its debut earlier this month in Grayling, Mich,, St. Germain's hometown, and Myers said they are planning to book additional venues.

Myers first began studying gymnastics at the age of 3 at Nittany Gymnastics in College Township. When he's not performing, he is a teacher and coach there. He also spends his time developing shows and has several more theater projects in the works.

He credits the unique and flexible of learning environment of the State College Delta Program with allowing him to develop as a performer.

"Through the independent study and flexible scheduling that Delta enables I was able to focus on my gymnastics and performance skills to develop them to a higher level," he said. "I especially benefited from coaching from [physical education] teacher Bill Tussey. My graduation project consisted of an original choreographed production of dance and gymnastics."

Tickets for "The Flicker" are available through The State Theatre website.
