The Second Mile to Transfer All Assets and Programs to Houston-Based Charity

The Second Mile, the non-profit charity Jerry Sandusky founded 35 years ago, will transfer all of its assets and programs to another charity.

Announced via thesecondmile.org Friday morning, The Second Mile plans to transfer all of its assets and programs to the Houston-based nonprofit Arrow Child & Family Ministries, which has operations in Pennsylvania.

No transfer will occur until plan is approved by the Orphan's Court.

Founded as a non-profit charity for underprivileged and at-risk children, The Second Mile suspended some of its operations and programs after Sandusky was arrested in November on 52 criminal counts of child sex abuse.

According to court documents, Sandusky met many of his victims through The Second Mile.

In January, The Second Mile's Bellefonte Property on Bernel Road was put up for sale, and the project scheduled to built The Second Mile Center for Excellence there was cancelled.

Cutbacks were announced in December due to significant financial losses. The Second Mile posted on its website that each decision made was in light of the charges brought against Sandusky.

Sandusky maintains his innocence and seeks dismissal of all charges. The trial is set for June 5 and jury selection is expected to take about two weeks.
