Homegrown productions give focus to international culture and awareness this week in downtown State College.

The State Theatre is celebrating its "Local Focus" with two events, the Community Drum Circle and Innocence for India.

At 7:30 p.m. Thursday, the Community Percussion Circle will meet upstairs, in "The Attic."

"Explore the universe of percussion through dozens of instruments from around the world," the State Theatre said on its newly redesigned website. "You can share a provided instrument or bring your own."

Tickets for the event are $10 per adult and $5 for students and children 12 years old and younger.

At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, the theatre will host a benefit concert, "Innocence for India."

Tickets are $5, and proceeds will benefit Invisible Children and the Jeevan Chhaya Foundation. According to the theatre's website, both foundations "are devoted to saving the lives of children all around the world who have been sold as sex slaves and made to become child soldiers."

Music will be provided by Hustle the Nobles, From the Dust, Insomniacs, and Jaywalkers, according to the State Theatre.

A local high school senior organized innocence for India, made up of local bands.
