by on March 18, 2019 10:42 AM

Jeremie Thompson announced that he is running for Ferguson Township Ward III supervisor.

A member of the Ferguson Township Planning Commission and representative to the Centre Regional Planning Commission, Thompson is the only Republican candidate to file for the Ward III supervisor primary election. Patty Stephens is running unopposed on the Democratic ticket.

Thompson said he has been active in local government since moving to Park Forest in 2013. He has more than a decade of retail and customer service experience and is currently a human resources associate.

He is a 2012 graduate of Penn State, where he earned a degree in labor and employment relations with concentrations in human resources and organizational leadership and minors in  business and the liberal arts.

The Ward III seat is currently held by Richard Killian, who was appointed by the board of supervisors in February to complete the unexpired term of Sara Spock Carlson. She resigned from the board in January, citing health issues.

Ferguson Township's Ward I and II supervisor positions are also up for election this year. In Ward I, Democratic incumbent Laura Dininni is seeking re-election and Ralph Wheland is the sole candidate on the Republican ballot. For Ward II, incumbent Peter Buckland is not running for re-election. Democrat Prasenjit Mitra and Republican Janet Whitaker will be on the primary ballots.

The municipal primary election is on May 21.
