Three Acts Set to Perform at the Hush Room

by on November 01, 2017 4:26 PM

The Hush Room will showcase on Thursday a variety of musicians with State College roots. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the venue requests a $5 donation to support the acts.

The Hush Room is State College’s  DIY art space, and the venue is open for all ages. Located at 110 Hetzel Street, the space provides a place for artists to display their work and it aims foster a sense of community within the industry. The Hush Room holds a no-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol with the hopes of keeping the venue distraction-free.

Penn State alum Brian Walker will kick off the night with his group A Day Without Love. Walker founded both ADWL and the Songwriters Club, and he was also one of the original bookers of La Casa Blanca on Park Avenue (one of State College's original DIY spaces). Though Walker currently resides in Philadelphia, he traces his artistic roots back to the State College music scene. The band will play an assortment of new songs from from both its upcoming record and latest album “Solice.”

Following ADWL is Marcelyn, another musician who got her start in State College before making her way to Philadelphia. You might recognize her from former band Hobbledehoy, Lady Grey’s Lovelies, or Essence of Joy. Marcelyn will also play tunes from her upcoming record, which she plans to release next year.

“Marcelyn’s music is something both fragile and deadly with a big helping of originality,” Walker said. “Her smooth vocals, plucky ukulele, and sharp lyricism make tough-to-swallow topics go down like a refreshing glass of water.”

Intermission Improv will take the stage as the final act of the evening. Comprised of Chris Dilks (drums/percussion) and Andre Harner (vocals/guitar), this group also hails from State College. The modern jam band has one goal: to spread love and happiness through music and positive action.
