Three-Star Offensive Tackle Will Fries Commits To Penn State

Penn State’s offensive line struggled mightily last season, but James Franklin is not-so-quietly building a stellar front five for the immediate future.

Will Fries, a 2016 prospect and a three-star offensive tackle from Cranford High School in Cranford, New Jersey, committed to Penn State Tuesday night, as first reported by 247Sports.

Fries weighed offers from a host of Big Ten and regional rivals including Maryland, Wisconsin, and Michigan. The Lions also won out over his home state team, Rutgers, and in-state foe Pitt. Ricky Rahne and Herb Hand handled the majority of the recruiting effort, according to 247Sports.

Fries is a physical force at 6-foot-6 and 270 pounds — and he’s only 17-years-old. 247 ranks him as the 10th-best New Jersey product, the 40th-best offensive lineman, and the 401st-best recruit in the county.

Fries’ commitment comes hardly a week after Michael Menet, Pennsylvania’s highest-ranked recruit and star offensive lineman, also pledged to play at Penn State. Along with Alex Gellerstedt, also a three-star o-lineman, Penn State’s 2016 front five is loaded. That recruiting class is now ranked No. 13 in the county, and third in the Big Ten.
