No. 1 Penn State women’s volleyball swept Iowa on Wednesday night in Carver-Hawkeye Arena for the Nittany Lions' 14th consecutive win, thanks in large part to a splendid showing from Simone Lee.

The senior outside hitter led the match in both kills and digs with 16 and 15, respectively. Russ Rose’s Nittany Lions beat the Hawkeyes 3-1 earlier this season in Rec Hall.

How It Happened

Penn State overwhelmed the Hawkeyes 25-10 in the first set and didn’t look back, cruising past Bond Shymansky’s squad 25-17, 25-12 to close things out. The Nittany Lions turned in a solid hitting percentage of .350 in Iowa City, while also outblocking the black and gold 11-5 and recording all six service aces of the match.

After Lee, a handful of players distributed the wealth offensively, with Ali Frantti and Heidi Thelen combining for 15 kills and Abby Detering and Tori Gorrell posting five apiece. Haleigh Washington finished with just four kills, but contributed a match-high five blocks. Detering and Bryanna Weiskircher continued to evenly split the setter duties.

Lee put together an outstanding two-way performance, showcasing her prowess as a passer in tying Kendall White for the most digs on the night.
