Truck Accident Closes Westbound Lanes on Route 322

by on August 19, 2014 5:35 PM

A tractor-trailer wreck closed down a section of westbound Route 322 in State College Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the driver of a westbound truck lost control during a rainstorm just before 3 p.m. State College Police Sgt. Chris Hill says, "I believe the wet roads contributed" [to the accident].

The tractor-trailer jackknifed about a half mile east of the Route 26 interchange, near a notoriously sharp turn. "We've had a number of accidents there," says Hill.

You can watch video of the accident scene below:

The truck driver was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

Police say the jackknifed truck contributed to a second accident in which a dump truck rear-ended a second tractor-trailer. That wreck happened almosts directly behind the jackknifed truck. No other injuries were reported.

The westbound lanes were closed from the Oak Hall exit to the Route 26 exit for about an hour and 20 minutes while emergency crews brought in heavy duty tow trucks and swept up debris.

No charges have been filed, however, police say their investigation is ongoing.
