Trustees OK Lasch Building Renovations

The Penn State Board of Trustees’ Committee on Finance, Business, and Capital Planning today endorsed a Missouri design team to move forward with a proposed $12 million renovation to the Lasch Football Building.

The renovations, proposed in December to give the building more of a “WOW factor,” will seek to make the Lasch Building one of the elite training facilities in America. Though the building is certainly acceptable in its current state, it has only received few upgrades since 1998, when it was built. According to a news release, “there are a number of functional requirements not being met.”

The renovations will include:

  • Expansion and reconfigurement of the locker room and recruiting lounge
  • Installation of themed graphics and branding
  • Equipment room renovation and expansion
  • A new fitting room with uniform and equipment display
  • New loading dock and parking lot reconfiguration
  • Upgrades to mechanical systems for an “immersive digital experience”

Populous Kansas City will lead the construction if the proposal is approved at the full board meeting tomorrow. Populous also worked on Boise State’s football center, which set an impressive standard.

Facilities have been a focus of Franklin’s coaching staff since it got to Happy Valley last January. The renovation will begin this month after it’s approved, and has a tentative completion date of June 2016.
