A two-vehicle crash caused a traffic backup Monday afternoon on a portion of Interstate 99 near State College.

The crash happened at about 3:10 p.m. on I-99 northbound around mile marker 73 in College Township, near the exit for Route 322. According to state police at Rockview, a 53-year-old State College woman driving a Honda was traveling southbound when she left the road for an unknown reason, crossed over the median and across northbound lanes.

The Honda then struck a Ford pickup truck being driven in the right northbound lane by a 49-year-old man from Julian, causing both vehicles to spin around.

Several witnesses told that the impact dislodged the engine from the Honda, causing it to fly through the air and land in the road.

The driver of the Honda was taken to Mount Nittany Medical Center and treated for minor injuries. The driver of the truck that was struck was not injured

Police are continuing to investigate and anyone with information is asked to call 814-355-7545.

Traffic was moving at a crawl for more than a mile back from the crash. Southbound traffic also was moving slowly but was moving freely by about 4 p.m.

By about 5:30 p.m. the road had been cleared and northbound traffic was back to normal.
