Tyrone Man To Stand Trial For Threatening Governor

on December 31, 2008 9:22 AM

A Tyrone man charged with threatening Governor Ed Rendell earlier this month will go to trial.

Magisterial District Judge Fred Miller found enough evidence on Tuesday to send all charges against 53-year-old Vincent Lee Stone over to Blair County Court. Stone is facing a felony count of ethnic intimidation and two misdemeanor charges of making terrorist threats and harassment.

During the preliminary hearing, defense attorney Thomas Dickey argued that Stone’s Email to Governor Rendell was a matter of free speech. State Police allege that Stone’s Email made “direct” and “indirect” threats. Stone later told police he had no plans to harm Rendell…but he did express his disgust in his administration.

Stone was released Tuesday from the Blair County Prison on $100,000 unsecured bail. His formal arraignment will be scheduled in January.
