Video Gives Virtual Tour of Plans for New Houserville Elementary School

A new fly-through video released by State College Area School District on Thursday gives a virtual tour, inside and out, of the design plans for the new Houserville Elementary School.

A new K-5 school will be built on the current Houserville site. The new building will combine the current Houserville, which is currently grades 3-5, and its sister school, Lemont Elementary, which is grades K-2. The Lemont building will be closed, and the district has not yet decided on future plans for the facility.

Houserville is one of three major elementary school construction projects in the district currently in the design phase. Radio Park and Corl Street elementary schools will undergo renovations and additions. All three are currently at the 90 percent design stage and fly-throughs for each were shown at Monday's school board meeting where the plans were reviewed.

The video for Corl Street was released on Wednesday and the Radio Park video should be released soon.

For Houserville, total square footage for the new construction is 71,342 square feet with three classrooms per grade. Design firm Crabtree Rohrbaugh and Associates low-bid estimate for the project is $20.63 million. State grants and reimbursement for the project bring the estimated district cost to $17.7 million.

A community forum will be held at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 in the Panorama Village Administrative Center boardroom for residents to review the 90 percent plans.

The board is expected to vote on the plans at its Aug. 28 meeting. The current project calendar calls for bids to be awarded on Nov. 13. Construction is expected to begin in January 2018 and be completed in the summer of 2019.
