Whitehall Road Construction Begins April 1, Traffic to be Detoured

by on March 26, 2013 12:37 PM

Drivers should expect delays when Whitehall Road construction resumes next Monday. Work continues between West College Avenue and Tadpole Road and will include detours for eastbound traffic.

According to Ferguson Township officials, construction crews are widening the roadway because of motorist safety issues. A review shows there were 36 crashes on that particular stretch of Whitehall Road over a three-year period.

The project will cost about $4 million and is scheduled to wrap up by the end of 2013, officials said. An estimated 2 million vehicle trips are made on Whitehall Road every year.

Starting April 1, the road will remain open for two way traffic from West College Avenue to Fir Drive, and from Tadpole Road to Ramblewood Drive. The road will be open to westbound traffic only from Fir Drive to Ramblewood Drive, and eastbound traffic will be detoured.

The detour will be in place at least until November. Eastbound traffic will have to take Tadpole Road to State Route 45 through Pine Grove Mills, to State Route 26 (West College Avenue). Nixon Road will remain open in both directions and motorists can cross at Whitehall Road. Also, Plainfield Drive will remain open in both directions.

Additional construction will take place on Whitehall Road/University Drive when PennDOT resumes its $10 million dollar road improvement project. According to PennDOT, work will start up again Wednesday, weather permitting.
