Wintry Mix Could Make Monday Morning Commute a Slippery Ride

by on January 11, 2015 7:45 AM

At long last, the deep freeze that's had us all shivering is expected to ease up.

At 7 a.m. Sunday the temperature in State College was a frigid 12 degrees but AccuWeather says Sunday's high should be in the 30s.

That may feel like a heatwave after a week long spell of temperatures in the teens and wind chills often making it feel like it was 10 or 15 degrees below zero.

However, the winter reprieve won't last long.

The workweek could get off to a slippery start thanks to a messy storm that's expected to hit the State College area early Monday morning.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Weather Advisory which will be in effect from midnight until 1 p.m. Monday.

We'll likely see a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain with temperatures in the 20s. Accumulations of snow and sleet should be less than an inch, but hazardous travel conditions and delays are possible during the morning commute.

We should see a changeover to rain Monday afternoon.

Slightly colder weather is in the forecast for Tuesday with highs in the 20s and lows in the single digits.

The rest of the week, we'll see high temps in the upper 20s.
