Wintry Weather Coming Soon
The weather in State College lately hasn't felt very Christmas-like, but that is soon to change.
Accuweather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines says a cold front is approaching the area today and will be moving through during the weekend.
"People ought to enjoy today because today will be the last mild day for a while," Kines says. "[The cold front] will allow the return of colder air coming in Friday and over the weekend."
On Friday, temperatures are expected to hover around 40 degrees and we will have a little rain too. Heading toward Friday evening though, and into Friday night, the rain will eventually turn into snow.
Accumulation is only expected to be about one to three inches though. With the falling temperatures, the primary concern Friday evening and night will be roads becoming slippery .
Kines says beginning next week, weather should be more seasonal.
"Saturday the sun will be out with temperatures in the lower 30's," Kines says. "Then we have to worry about another round of precipitation coming in later Sunday and Sunday night and into Monday as well."
The precipitation should be either snow or freezing rain. With the freezing rain, Kines says people should be watching out for fallen tree limbs.
Kines says this week should be the last of the warm weather for a while.
"After tomorrow it could be many days before we hit 40 again," Kines says.
